Care & Maintenance FAQs
Washing
Wash your hair every 2 to 3 days to prevent natural oils from causing the tapes to slip. Use a gentle, sulfate-free shampoo. Apply shampoo by gently massaging it into the scalp and avoid scrubbing the tape bonds. Let the shampoo run through the lengths as you rinse, rather than applying shampoo directly to the extensions. Apply conditioner only from the mid-lengths to the ends, avoiding the tape attachments. Use a leave-in conditioner or hair serum on the ends for extra moisture.
Drying & Styling
Pat your hair gently with a towel after washing. It's best to let your hair air dry, but if you must use a hair dryer, use a low heat setting and keep the dryer at least 6 inches away from the tape bonds. Use a soft bristle brush or a special extension brush. Start detangling from the ends and gradually work your way up to the roots. Hold the roots of your hair while brushing to avoid pulling on the bonds. When using heat styling tools, apply a heat protectant and avoid the tape bonds. It's advisable to use the lowest heat setting possible.
Sleeping
Never go to bed with wet hair extensions. Ensure your hair is completely dry. Braid your hair or tie it in a loose ponytail or bun to prevent tangling while you sleep. Use a silk or satin pillowcase to reduce friction and prevent tangling.
Swimming & Exercising
Before swimming, wet your hair with clean water and apply a leave-in conditioner. Consider wearing a swim cap. Chlorine and salt water can weaken the tape bond and cause the extensions to matte. After exercising, gently rinse your scalp to remove sweat. Avoid leaving your hair sweaty for extended periods as this can loosen the tape bonds.
Regular Maintenance Checks
Schedule regular appointments with your stylist every 6 to 8 weeks to check the condition of your extensions and adjust or replace them as needed. Depending on your hair growth and the care routine, the tape may need to be replaced or re-adjusted after a certain period to prevent slipping and to keep the extensions looking their best.
Products to Avoid
Avoid oils, serums, and conditioners near the tape bonds as these can cause the tapes to slip. Avoid using products containing alcohol or sulfate on or near the extensions as they can dry out the hair and weaken the adhesive.
